Reviews for this release

Serious problem with this release. Connections are dropped at random, and when a connection is dropped (or sometimes when deliberately closed) it leaves a blank grey tab open which cannot be closed.
by Vershner on May 22 at 9:24 AM

I like the new UI changes. Currently I have the problem that someone has also mentioned. Some RDP connections will become blank. Closing such a connection tab will crash Terminals.

Terminals sessions randomly drop out leaving a tab to nowhere. I am not able to close the tabs. Eventually I just have to restart the program just to get rid of these phantoms. I don't think this is what you call "Stable".

I have been using this software for years. It's always been what I need. But the blank screen RDP thing is driving me nuts! Let me see if I can narrow it down from my experience. I have multiple RDP sessions open. A mix of 2008 R2 and 2012 R2 servers. The blank screen only occurs on the window that is switched to after I log off a 2012 R2 server (switch to either 2008 or 2012). This does not happen with 2008 R2 log offs. And it's only the server that is switched to, other are fine. All I can do is re-open another RDP windows that lets me back into my session. For the love of all things holy, I hope someone can figure this out. Thanks again for the years of support on this project!

The application is good, however there is a pretty bothersome bug that's forcing me to restart the application several times an hour. This needs to be addressed sooner rather than later.

I'm sorry guys , but I will not call this release "Stable".I'm unable to work with this release. Connections are dropped all the time and leaves a blank tab which cannot be closed.

This is my favorite terminal application. It is an indispensable tool used all day, every day. With that said, 3.6 crashes alot. I'm rolling back to 3.5 until this can be resolved.

I upgraded and same issue. Connections randomly drop and then there's a blank grey window that I can't close.

I do not experience the problems that others do with this release and Terminals has become an invaluable tool for me. I use it in database store mode so this could make a difference. I also use it portable and not the installer

seriously did somebody test this - the connections keep dropping - I have to restart this app several times a day - loads of users complains but still no updates

Hi Guys, this is a great product, I have been using it for years. But there is an issue with disconnected sessions leaving a grey blank page.
by awarner on Jun 19 at 3:40 AM

I have the exact same problem as Vershner mentionned. From time to time I lost connection on 1 of the server I work on, I then have a blank grey tab that I cannot close unless I close Terminals and restart it. This can happen 2 to 3 times a day.
by MGuenette on Jun 18 at 6:33 PM

Big issue when disconnecting from several machines. If you don't stay on the same tab for all the time it takes to disconnect you, the new tab you are on will turn grey. This new tab is still active, it's just that you can't see anything on it and you can't close it with the cross, the whole Terminals application has to be closed to recover from it.

Upgraded from 3.5 with MSI installation and no problems. However the crash/hangs/grey-tab bug existed in 3.5 as well as in 3.6. I reproduce it like this: 1. Open a RDP connection 2. Switch to som other window 3. Right click on the Terminals task bar item 4. Left click on the Terminals task bar item 5. Window gone, process still in tasklist

You guys need to pull this release and put 3.5 back.

I don't mean to be ungrateful - this is a powerful piece of software - but 3.6 has an obvious quality problem, one that would have been caught with a commercial product. Echoing a few others, there is a most obvious bug introduced in 3.6: when you connect a tab that's already connected but locked, you get a gray duplicate tab. After a while, things seem to get slow or hang, and I have to terminate the program entirely. In the end, downgrading back to 3.5 resolved the issue. If these things are fixed in a subsequent release, I will be happy to up the rating.

When I connect and get too small a window because I change resolutions, I try to reconnect and it used to connect right back in now I get a blank tab.

Connection drops, some times you cannot open new connections without closing old ones, greyed out window. And since last upgrade everytime terminal hangs, when i restart all my favorites are gone along with my password. When i restart it once it crashes it acts as if i am running it for first time.
by razorsharp on Jun 8 at 2:53 PM

Terminals always improving. If you run Terminals with "Run as administrator..." option the blank screen problem practically disappears. I suppose thats its a problem with Windows UAC.

I am having the same issue where it constantly blanks out a connection that cannot be closed until you exit and reenter the application.

I have the same problem as Veshner. Some connections are dropped continuously and can't be closed. The only solution is to restart Terminals. Connections are dropped at random, and when a connection is dropped (or sometimes when deliberately closed) it leaves a blank grey tab open which cannot be closed.

Unstable. We have the same problem than Veshner. Some connections are dropped continuously and can't be closed. The only solution is to restart Terminals.

A bad release. Dropped Connections, tabs often cannot be closed. See discussion https://terminals.codeplex.com/discussions/637912

I have been running 3.5.0 for some time, I had all my servers grouped with passwords etc,, over 200+ servers. Downloaded 3.6, thought the portable version would be good, and installed it. It has completely deleted all my data from 3.5 so I have no servers, no config whatsoever. What a crock of ****. Also have unstable sessions and tabs go grey. Randon disconnects. Status should be downgraded to unstable. On this release if I could remove the 1 star rating i would.
by stuartreed on May 28 at 9:21 AM

Just upgraded to 3.6, and it appears as though whenever I log off of a server, with other connections still active, it leaves the next tab over completely inaccessible, and when I try to drag that tab off onto it's own window to it crashes the whole Terminals program. This is very repeatable, and from the other reviewers I'm not the only one with this issue.
by Squirreljester on May 27 at 10:36 PM

Lots of problems with random disconnects and tabs that won't close. Steer clear of this release. I'm going back to 3.5

New UI in 3.6 needs attention. The credential manager is no longer visible when selecting properties of a connection. The port number field only reveals the first digit. Plus I have experienced the other issues reported by users (screen blanking, dropping connections). Have reinstalled version 3.5 which had other issues such as CTRL + ALT + INSERT no longer worked in my vCenter app within a session if the Favourites column is opened. A restart of the app is then required. Needs work guys

Firstly Terminals is great and it is a tool I rely on so much. This release of 3.6 brings a welcome UI update which I like. My upgrade from 3.5 (Local DB) was seamless with all my credentials and groups and favourites still in please. Sadly this release has also brought a bug why RDP tabs randomly disconnect but leave a blanks tab behind. The only way I have found to remove them is to restart the program which is quite frustrating each day. Keep up the good work though as it is a great tool!

Downgrading to 3.5. Similar issue as mentioned by others, sessions randomly dropped and left with a gray tab. If I drag this tab out of the console, I then get an error popup, but clicking OK closes Terminals altogether. Love the app, but this version is unusable for me.

after updating from 3.5 to 3.6 all my favorites, settings and credentials were gone. (WTF!!) but... I did a little research and realized, the LOCATION of the data-folder went from "C:\Program Files (x86)\Terminals" (location until 3.5) to "C:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Robert_Chartier\Terminals" (location since 3.6) ... so, i picked the whole DATA-folder and moved it into the appdata-location (of course with replacing the new, innocent data-folder created by the installation of 3.6) - and it worked. HTH! ;) ... well, beside of this little struggle I also have to deal with several crashes since 3.6. I hope this will be fixed soon. :)

A few issues SSH screen redraw issue is old and still not fixed. Now some windows freeze and closing them causes Terminals to crash. Overall I still like it
by zizebra on May 22 at 11:11 AM

Same problem as stuartreed - installed 3.6 on top of 3.5, and *all* of my configuration has disappeared. The installer has overwritten "AppData\Local\Robert_Chartier\Terminals\Data\Terminals.config" with a default file, and there is *no* way to recover the original.

Updated review: I have just removed v3.6 for the bugs on window position and "blanking" the last connection on closing... https://terminals.codeplex.com/workitem/34697 Just installed without problems, but that bug item should be re-opened because it's not solved! At least for me now is even worst...

Great Idea. Bad Execution. I like the UI changes. Refreshing. Crashing constantly!! Multiple times a day. :( I have far too much going on and too many connections open to deal with constant crashing. Likely have to revert versions. Why Is the Parent folder Grouping not saved in the Export?? I have to Re-Create all my folders and reorganize all of my Favorite's into folders upon import... That is extremely inconvenient. Especially since I wasn't warned upon upgrade that it would delete all my favorites, or that I would have to import from a backup. (thank god I exported them first!)
by kplantus on May 19 at 11:03 PM

Good idea, bad follow through. Convenience is the big sale point for me, but with the white screens and the crashes it really makes it difficult for me to continue using this release. I will probably revert to the older release that didn't crash on me repeatedly.
by jpr500 on May 19 at 6:55 PM

I recommend to everyone to always backup all your connections data before any upgrades. Go to: File menu, Export Connections. Then click "select all", and (at your preference) check the include passwords box. That being said, I didn't have any issues with upgrading to 3.6. However, for 3.6, there's currently this bug: https://terminals.codeplex.com/workitem/43113 I recommend staying on 3.5, until that bug is fixed.
by goslackware on May 18 at 1:18 PM

Some open connections (tabs) will get blank after a while. This way you will have lots of open sessions on servers. Please fix quickly! Otherwise it's a perfect tool.

I've been using this tool since version 1.x (can't remember which version). It has come up a long way, and it is part of my tool set which I would have a hard time going without. With version 3.6, I have found only one bug so far, but that bug renders the tool useless for me. The issue is that it hangs quite often. Having several tabs open, I would click on one of the tabs, ant it's totally blank and the app crashes. If this crash thing can be fixed, the rest seems great. thanks! In the meantime, I'll revert to my backup of version 3.5 - I'm glad I had it setup as portable, which prevented me from losing all my favorites :)

Still SSH issue is not fixed ..........

I used the msi install on top of 3.5. Looks ok so far except, unlike others who lost groups, servers, etc. my groups and servers are all still there but *almost* all the servers got duplicated (still within the group they were in). A small percentage (<10%) did not duplicate. I don't see anything in common on the ones that did duplicate or the ones that didn't. Some in groups duplicated and some in groups didn't but some NOT in groups duplicated and some not in groups didn't. Some with and without saved passwords duplicated and some with and without didn't. Old vs. new doesn't seem to be in common either. YMMV but, assuming the Export and Import work ok: People who haven't updated may want to export all favorites before update with passwords then whether things get removed or duplicated they could always delete all favorites and re-import that?

Just made a xcopy deploy and its connections from the v.3.5. I liked the new connection UI.

Updated from 3.5 to 3.6 with no issues. I went from 3.5 installed to 3.6 installed (not portable).

Glad I backed up 3.5. I rely heavily on groups. I was missing servers, not only from groups but from the list at all. Disappointed.
